Some of what BMW owners are told quietly drives up the cost of ownership. Here's the honest version — the version that keeps your car alive and your bills sane.
The transmission fluid is 'lifetime' and never needs changing.
The ZF 8-speed is strong, but its fluid still degrades with heat. A proper service at a sensible interval is cheap insurance — skipping it is how a good gearbox dies young.
Only the dealer can service a BMW.
